Video: The Strategy Center Gets the Tanks and M-16s Out of the LA School System

Fight for the soul of the cities confronts Los Angeles Unified School District and Los Angeles School Police Department for Educational and Military Racism.

After a one and a half years struggle Fight for this Soul if the Cities has forced The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) to return all of the weapons received under the Department of Defense 1033 Program — the struggle has been a battle of attrition — two months ago, LAUSD finally returned the remaining 61 M-16 rifles they received in 1998. They receive these weapons behind the publics back and return them behind the publics back expecting a quote "thank you " and "let's Move On".

Prior to the National Demonstration in Los Angeles to #End1033 in LAUSD in front of the LAUSD Headquarters, the Fight for the Soul of the Cities received an apology letter from Monica Garcia. Following the Demonstration Fight for the Soul of the Cities received separate apology letters from the LASPD Chief Steven Zipperman, and LAUSD Board Chair Steve Zimmer. WE WON!

On April 22 Fight for the Soul of the Cities with the collaboration of the Dignity in Schools Campaign and hundreds of students from across Los Angeles came to the LAUSD to demand a full counting of all weapons received, a public apology, and reparations by cutting the Los Angeles School Police Department budget by 50% and to build a movement to end the 1033 program nationally

These are the faces, sounds, and words of this movement
