Michael | Voices from the Buses
My name is Michael Coleman. I ride the 740, 40, the 42 and the 102. These busses have been going by my house for years. I got into a car accident last year so I'm back on the bus. I ride all the way to Pasadena everyday. To get to and from work with these proposed cuts I would pretty much have to find a whole new way of getting to work and getting home.
Interviewer: How much longer do you think it is going to take you without a rapid?
Michael: Oh I would probably be leaving my house at nine am trying to get work at 11 am at times. So definitely I really hope they don't cut this bus, I really need the rapids and definitely the 40 and the 42.
Interviewer: So what do you think about the MTA saying that the 740 is a duplication of service with the 40?
Michael: Well definitely not, they do have different stops. The 740 is very convenient for riders such as myself who find themselves in a hurry, commuting everyday to and from work. Just with the express service getting to work quickly and home quickly, it's very very convenient.
Interviewer: So what do you think about the fact that the MTA is cutting nine whole bus lines? How do you think that is going to affect the bus riding public?
Michael: Well definitely, it's going to cost them overcrowding. These busses are already jam packed. I get on the bus and people stand for their whole trip. I've ridden from as far as Union Station to King and Crenshaw. And sometimes I have to stand on that bus, the 740 or even the 40's so definitely to eliminate a line all together your going to put even more people on busses, so unless they plan on duplicating and putting more busses definitely it would be a huge loss.
Interviewer: Do you think the MTA is broke?
Michael: No I definitely don't. Matter of fact that line that there putting by my house I have spoken to some of the workers I understand what they are getting paid, so they are definitely coming out of their pockets for that, I don't understand why they can't continue with our lines and keep things going like that.
