The Los Angeles Poverty Department, a social-justice oriented community theater company, has worked in Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles for over 25 years. The group's work reflects the direct experiences of the members of the Skid Row community and features them as co-authors and actors for the group's plays. The group’s latest piece, States of Incarceration, opens this Friday in Santa Monica and shines on the light on the inhuman conditions inside California’s infamously overcrowded prisons.
