Renowned radical social scientist Immanuel Wallerstein in conversation with Eric Mann on global crises from the Middle East to Europe and the US . How will the growing tensions over nuclear weapons between Iran ,Israel and the international community play out? What are the prospects for the global economic crisis and how are governments and social movements responding in Europe and the US ? Will we see a revival of Keynesianeconomic policies? Wallerstein is the author of countless books on the history of capitalism, anti-colonialism in Africa , and “world systems theory.”  At age 79, he is still cranking out some of the best political commentary available today through his twice-monthly column, including recent commentaries “Impossible Choices in a World Depression” and “Why McChrystal Did It”.

I discovered the books by Immanuel Wallerstein and Gunder Frank while I was studying political science at a public university. As someone who enjoys debating with professors, I found the content of their literature offered more than enough ammunition to engage in intellectual battle. That was nearly 25 years ago. What I found fascinating at the time was that one was given the tools to foresee the future by way of trajectory, building an abstract and accurate intellectual model out into the future. Most people, the overwhelming majority, have no idea of how this is done and could never conceive of doing it themselves, therefore to them, within the confines of their own minds, it is an impossibility. And I agree with them, as that is the truth... for them.
