Air Date:
05/11/2009
Segment Host:
Eric Mann

500 x 500 Pat AlvisoBarack Obama was elected with support from the anti-war movement and the anti-war majority across the US. Yet Barack Obama the President is in the process of sending 17,000 more troops to Afghanistan. He has increased drone missile attacks in an unstable Pakistan. And he has extended the withdrawal timeline from Iraq to the end of 2011. Veterans, active duty soldiers, and their families know better than anyone in the US the terror and insanity of these wars. That's why the strongest and most steadfast opponents to these wars come from organizations like Iraq Veterans Against the War and Military Families Speak Out. Pat Alviso, whose son has served two tours in Iraq and is currently in Afghanistan, and Devon Read, an 8-year Marin Core Reserve veteran who served in Iraq, talk about their work and the recent Southwest Winter Soldier event in Pasadena. In conversation with Eric Mann, a veteran of the movement against the war in Vietnam.
