Elmer Kabong La Bog: Political repression and resistance in the Philipines
hosted by on 12/01/2008
An exclusive interview with Elmer "Kabong" Labog, Chairman of Kilusang Mayo Uno (or KMU, the May First Movement) on the political repression in the Phillipines under US-backed President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Founded during a period of martial law in 1980, KMU is the largest and most militant labor center in the Phillipines today, with a long history of militant labor organizing and resistance to government repression. Despite the murder of 22 leaders of the KMU during Arroyo's two terms, Kabong is the first leader of the KMU to visit the United States in 22 years.
