Pete White: "Safer Cities" and the criminalization of homelessness

What does "Safer Cities" really mean? Members of the Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN) say it's really just an effort to criminalize extremely poor and homeless people by cracking down on quality of life crimes. In Venice, Hollywood, downtown, and other areas of the city the "crackdown" and "clean up" come in the name of redevelopment and gentrification. Adcovates of more jails and temophory dentetion claim that with the lack of affordable housing, shelters, and other city funded services, "lock up" is the only option for LA's homeless. Countering these claims LA CAN will organize a public action on the 2nd Anniversary of the Los Angeles Safer Cities Initiative. Joining us to discuss is Pete White, Director of Los Angeles Community Action Network.
