Executive Summary and Major Findings
In a major study of the bus system operated by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), bus riders gave the agency a "D" grade in almost every category, including on time performance, overcrowding, fares, and frequency of service, weekend service, and overall accessibility. MTA received an "F" on night service. This study, conducted by the Bus Riders Union (BRU), demonstrates: 1) the deep dissatisfaction on part of LA County bus riders with MTA bus service; and 2) the clear need, from the perspective of those who use the system everyday, for a program of bus system improvements and fare reductions as the cornerstone of Los Angeles County’s long range plan for public transportation.
