Super Pasajera took the streets today to stop the MTA "grim reaper" from slashing bus service as part of the BRU's educational street teatro on the northeast corner of Wilshire and Vermont exposing the dangers of MTA's proposed bus service cuts to morning rush hour riders.

The Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is proposing to cut approximately 375,000 annual bus service hours through eliminating 21 bus lines and reducing service on 24 others by June 2008. These proposed service cuts [1], coupled with the July 2007 fare increase and the one set for 2009, attempt to dramatically undermine the gains of the Civil Rights Consent Decree. If we include the 90,000 hours of bus service cuts from last year to the proposed 375,000 hours, close to 45% of the service expansion won through the enforcement of the Consent Decree is at stake.
