The draft Environmental Impact Report(EIR) for the Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes Project is due to be released in April. So we met with councilmembers Tom LaBonge and Bill Rosendahl who are on the Transportation Committee of the Los Angeles City Council.
We asked for their continued leadership in making sure that the project is finalized and the EIR approved by the end of this year.
Councilmember LaBonge expressed overall support for the project after sharing his concern around specific intersections along Wilshire that he would like the LA Department of Transportation to carefully look into. He shared that he wants to see the project breakground soon.
During our meeting with Councilmember Rosendahl, who is the chair of the Transportation Committee, he ensured us that he will work to consolidate the rest of the members of the committee and the LA City Council to support the Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes project when the final Environmental Impact Report comes up for approval by the city this fall.
We were glad to hear from the councilmembers because their leadership will be critical in securing the majority vote necessary in the city council for the final EIR approval and the okay to break ground for the project.
The next 3 months we will knock on doors, visit shops, collect letters to build an even stronger coalition pushing for the Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes Project. We have organized another 34 businesses and institutions to endorse the project in the last 3 weeks and you can help by sending in a letter of support to the city and asking other local busineses and institutions that you know along Wilshire to endorse our campaign. If you'd like sample letters and materials, please contact us (below).
On Wednesday April 14th (2 pm) the Transportation Committee will get an update on the draft EIR. Come join us at city hall to testify your support for the Wilshire BOL campaign.
