Pollution Watch Series #4: MTA’s Fare Hike Leaving You With No Room to Breathe

The MTA seeks to balance its budget on the backs of poor Black, Latino, Asian and white working class bus riders by increasing the fare prices. 1500 people came out and demanded that the MTA reverse its racist and environmentally harmful proposal last May 24th. The BRU's Clean Air Campaign and the Natural Resources Defense Council believe that the fare hike could push 140,000bus riders off the buses and into an estimated 1 billion more carbon-dioxide emitting care miles on the road for the next 5 years. We are suing the MTA Board for violating the California Environmental Quality Act by not conducting an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for a fare increase that will fund more rail construction, and if successful the lawsuit can place a temporary moratorium on the fare increase until the EIR is conducted. The struggle to stop the fare hike only begins with the lawsuit. Join the Clean Air Campaign to reduce the racist and toxic fare increase.
