Bus Only Lanes Brief

Last year Congress approved all $23.3 million of federal funding for the Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes Project. This summer the city will be releasing the final Environmental Impact Report for the project. By next year we could see the first bus-only lane running in the most auto congested city in the country.
The Wilshire Bus-Only Lanes will run from Valenica (near downtown LA) to West L.A. and will operate during rush hour from 7am-9am and 4pm to 7pm. Wilshire Boulevard has the largest bus ridership in the county with almost 100,000 boardings a day. Implementing bus-only lanes would carry passengers faster across the county, and attract even more drivers out of their carcinogenic cars onto the buses. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) estimates that the Wilshire Bus Only Lane Project alone would result in at least a 10% mode shift from cars to transit on the corridor.
In the last five years, 142 community organizations and businesses along the Wilshire Corridor endorsed the campaign.
