1. 21st Annual Political Party - Saturday, May 8th

As many of you know, the political party is a major event for the Labor Community Strategy Center and Bus Riders Union when we celebrate our accomplishments and raise critical funds to sustain our work. Political Party is less than a month away and we are weeks away from celebrating 21 years of Labor Community Strategy Center work and accomplishments! Get your dancing clothes and shoes ready! We want this year to be the year that YOU decide to make if you haven't yet. Therefore we will be working with members to develop their own fundraising plans on how they are going to pay for their full ticket. We know times are difficult, which is why we know we have to get creative. The cost of the ticket is $100 so come ready with a list of friends, family members and organizations you know ‘cuz we are going to help you put together a plan to reach this goal.

2. Earth Day - Screening of CRUDE

In celebration of Earth Day and in solidarity with the struggle of Indigenous communities in Ecuador against the US oil giant Chevron/Texaco, your Clean Air Campaign Action Committee will be holding a special screening of the movie CRUDE. 2010 marks a 17-year struggle of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon fighting a multi-national oil company that dumped 18 billion gallons of toxic waste water. The toxic trails have devastated entire communities and led to 1400 cancer deaths, birth defects etc..,

Our own history is rooted in the fight against Texaco oil refineries in Wilmington and led us to send a delegation to visit with Accion Ecologica in Ecuador connecting our local struggle to an International fight against market driven pollution and devastation. And on this same day, Clean Air campaign organizer, Sunyoung will be in Bolivia at the Climate Conference where social movements and left governments in Latin America and the third world will be discussing solutions to climate change rooted in sovereignty and paying back the ecological debt to those that have been suffering the consequences of fossil fuel development.

1. Fiesta Política Anual - sábado, 8 de mayo

Como muchos de ustedes saben, la fiesta política es un evento importante para el Centro de Estrategia y el Sindicato de Pasajeros en el que celebramos nuestros logros y recaudamos fondos críticos para mantener nuestro trabajo y organización. Nos queda menos de un mes para la fiesta política y unas cuantas semanas para celebrar 21 años de victorias de derechos civiles y ambientalistas. Prepara tu ropa y zapatos de baile! Queremos que este año sea el año en que usted decide llegar a la fiesta si no ha asistido. Por eso es que, ese sábado vamos a trabajar con los miembros para desarrollar su propios planes de cómo van a pagar su boleto completo. Sabemos que los tiempos son difíciles, por eso tenemos que ser creativos. El costo del boleto es $100 así que venga preparado con una lista de amistades, familiares y organizaciones que conoce para elaborar su plan de alcanzar este objetivo.

2. Día de la Tierra - CRUDE - el Precio Verdadero del Petróleo

En celebración del Día de la Tierra y en solidaridad con la lucha de las comunidades indígenas en Ecuador contra los petroleros gigantes de EE.UU. Chevron / Texaco, su Comité de Acción de la Campaña Aire Limpio mostrarán el documental CRUDE. El 2010 marca una lucha de 17 años de los pueblos indígenas en las Amazonas en contra de una compañía petrolera multinacional que son culpables de haber dompeado 18 mil millones de galones de aguas tóxicas. Los senderos tóxicos han devastado a comunidades enteras y han causado 1400 muertes por cáncer, y han creado defectos de nacimiento, etc.,

Nuestra propia historia tiene sus raíces en la lucha contra las refinerías de petróleo de Texaco en Wilmington y nos llevó a enviar una delegación para visitar a Acción Ecológica en Ecuador conectando nuestra lucha local con una lucha internacional contra la contaminación y la devastación impulsada por el capitalismo. Este mismo día, organizador de la campaña de Aire Limpio, Sunyoung estará en Bolivia en la Cumbre Climática, donde movimientos sociales y gobiernos de izquierda en América Latina y el Tercer Mundo discutirán soluciones al cambio climático arraigado en la soberanía y el reembolso de la deuda ecológica a los que han estado sufriendo las consecuencias del desarrollo de combustibles fósiles.

2. 지구의 날 다큐 영화 상영: "크루드- 석유의 진짜 대가"

지구의 날을 기념하며 에콰도르의 원주민들이 미국의
석유회사 셰브런-텍사코 (CHEVRON-Texaco) 를 상대로 투쟁하는 일에 연대를 하기 위해서 이번 월례회의에서
"크루드-석유의 진짜 대가" 다큐멘타리 영화를 상영할 계획입니다. 이번 행사는 깨끗한 공기 켐페인 활동 위원회가 주최하는
것입니다. 2010년은 에콰도르의 아마존에서 토착 원주민들이 거대 석유회사 셰브런을 상대로 법정싸움을 벌인지 17주년이 되는
해입니다. 셰브런은 아마존에 쏟아버린 유독성 석유폐기물 180억 갤런을 그대로 방치하고 있습니다. 그 대가는 여러 마을에 흐르는
강과 물을 먹고 사는 주민들에게 1,400의 휘기 암 사망자, 기형아, 피부 질환등의 병을 갖어다 주고있습니다.

지
난 90년도 초반에 전략센터도 텍사코 석유 정유소를 상대로 윌밍턴 (엘에이 항구 지역에 위치한 동네)에서 투쟁을 한 바있습니다.
우리는 에콰도르에서 일하는 환경연합 단체도 방문하며 엘에이 지역의 환경 운동을 전 세계에서 이여지는 반 산업 오염과 환경 보호
운동과 연결 시켰습니다.

이번 월례회의때 깨끗한 공기 켐페인 조직가 양선영씨가 볼리비아 (남미국가)에서 진행되는
기후 협력 회담에 참여하고 있을겁니다. 이 회담에는 전 세계의 사회 운동 단체들과 라틴 아메리카의 진보 정부 대표들이 참여하여
주권과 생태적 채무에서 비롯된 기후변화와 지구 온난화 해결책들을 논의할 예정입니다.
