A statewide alliance of more than 40 organizations is calling on Attorney General Jerry Brown to accept the August 4th ruling of a federal three judge panel that ordered the release of 44,000 prisoners as a response to California's unconstitutional prison conditions. On Thursday,  representatives from Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB) will personally deliver a letter signed by dozens of organizations and individuals, including State Senator Gloria Romero, to the Attorney General's offices in Sacramento, Oakland, Fresno and Los Angeles, urging the state not to appeal.

CURB is also calling on our Legislature and Governor to seize this moment and cancel $12 billion of planned prison construction. The Court rejected new construction as a solution in its ruling, noting "construction... remains years away and would in any event likely not provide adequate relief."
