Los Angeles Students Face Fare Increases
Despite repeated assurances that the increases in fares would not affect students, a recent News Release from UCLA shows fare increases that will go into effect on August 1, thereby increasing the costs to students and their parents for the new quarter.
Students traveling to the campus will be paying a 33% increase with the BruinGo pass, while the LADOT Commuter pass will increase by 25%. The UCLA faculty will see an increase of 21% for their GoMetro pass beginning with the Fall quarter. A breakdown of prices on all the transit services that feed into UCLA campus was included in the news release.
Fare Increases and Service Cuts across Los Angeles
This is just the latest in a series of fare increases in transit systems all over Los Angeles. LA Metro, LADOT's Dash, and Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus have all authorized fare increases. The fare increases are part of a budget that will also include service cuts for riders. Los Angeles Metro has planned to cut up to 388,000 service hours and LADOT's Dash has eliminated service in the Warner Center and Hyde Park and starting August 1, will eliminate service in Central City East, Hollywood and West Hollywood.
