After protests from Transit advocates, labor unions and concerned commuters, New Jersey goes ahead with its record fare hikes After a series of sometimes heated public hearings, the fare increase will go into effect on Saturday, May 1.
Bus riders and light rail riders will face a 10% increase in their fares, while intrastate bus riders and rail commuters will face a fare increase of 25%. The new fare structure will also eliminate price breaks for off-peak hours, with previously issued tickets being good for a short grace period.
