San Francisco MUNI to restore service

As reported by the Mission Local, San Francisco Muni, as of September 4th will restore 61% of the service that was cut back in May. This means the restoration of OWL service for Mission bus lines as well as decreased wait times.

This service restoration was made possible by a one time funding received from the San Francisco County Transportation Authority and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

This is a rare bit of good news that came as other cities continue to struggle with service cuts and fare increases. On the same day that San Francisco was reporting partial restoration of service, Portland Oregon was facing service cuts to dozens of their bus lines and the cutting of two routes.

The struggle for quality mass transit continues to be pressing problem all over the country.
