New York's City Limits: MTA Bus Cuts

Showing the actual cost of Bus Service Cuts

New York's City Limits' blog profiles the street level impact of MTA's cutting of service on five bus lines (one for each borough) that run through some of the poorest, most transit dependent areas of the city.

The Effect of Service Cuts not equal for all riders

On some of the lines, while they were able to save peak service, the MTA has cut night and weekend service. TRPT member Elena Conte of the Pratt Center for Community Development is quoted "Besides working unusual hours that cross into the transit system's off-peak times, Conte said, people who make less money tend to have longer commutes."

The cuts have deprived residents of easy access to subway lines, has complicated the commute for hospital workers, and increased the commute time and difficulty for an entire community of primarily senior citizens.
