New America Media-Obama Administration Threatens to Yank Stimulus Funds Over Civil Rights

Feb 2 2010

After years of unanswered claims of Civil Rights violations in transportation policy, the Federal Transportation Administration has threatened to withhold stimulus funding from the BART’s (Northern California's Bay Area Rapid Transit) latest rail project, the Oakland airport connector, because it does not comply with Title VI regulations. The BART has until February 16, 2010 to submit an action plan that complies with Title VI, if it is not approved the bus system in the Bay Area could receive critical funds that would help reduce the number of fare increases, service cuts and job losses.
