Mayor puts squeeze on elderly and disabled mobility in Maui

Mayor puts squeeze on elderly and disabled mobility

According to an article in April 6 Maui News,  the mayor has advanced a budget that will cut 80 percent of the funding to a Maui bus program that serves the elderly and disabled communities. In addition to these cuts the new fare structure would include a $2 charge to riders who make use of the wheelchair lift and eliminate the monthly bus passes. The changes in fare structure is expected to generate $325,000 dollars a year.

This new information comes only days after the mayor proposed a S1.5 million dollar capital project to build a series of bus shelters.
