For the past two weeks Bus Riders Union members and volunteers have been going out on the 720 buses and asking people to write comments of support for the bus only lanes.  Here's what people have been saying:

Erick Homiak, resident of West Hollywood and BRU member:

"As a bus rider for over 20 years and a person with asthma I support bus only lanes.  By doing this you will lighten congestion, better air quality, reduce bus waiting time, and save money.  I think it's a great plan."

Judith Redman, BRU planning committe member:

"This segment* is one of the most congested parts of the BRT line ridden primarily by people of color.  Please make this addition example of your conscious decision to include people of color."

*referring to the Valencia to Park View section that was not included in Alternative A of the Draft Environmental Impact Report

Nestor Lemos, Queer Activist Network/CSSC member:

"This has been proven time and again by Curitiba in Brazil, Mexico City and other developing nations.  Effective, flexible and affordable with little long term committment. If indeed Los Angeles wishes to be the future, this would lead the way."

Melissa Lemus, student:

"I am a college student who travels from the San Fernando Valley to LA to get to school.  I rely entirely on public transportation and will benefit greatly from the bus only lane.  It will allow me to get from place to place faster and reduce the overcrowding of the buses."

Zeferino Zacarias, regular 720 bus rider:

"This is a good idea.  Some people need to arrive at work on time.  Some people have cars, but they can save money on gas by taking the bus.  I would have more time to spend with my family if this project goes through."

Michael Cochran, bus rider:

"L.A. has become undrivable at times during the day.  Public transportation needs to be improved and expanded.  Equally important is the improvement on our environment with the reduction in carbon emitted."
