News Coverage From July 1st Day of Action at Mayor's Mansion
Joined by Los Angeles Community Action Network POWER, and Comunidad Presente,
the Bus Riders Union kicked off their Summer of Resistance Campaign with a 5:30am wake up call at Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa mansion asking him to reverse the 2010 fare increase that went into effect on the morning of July 1st during the worst recession in 70 year.
Later that evening, the Bus Riders Union was joined again by LACAN, inquilinos unidos, Comunidad Presente, Union de Vecinos, Retired City Librarians, South Asian Network and other allies back at the Mayor's manions to rally during dinner time to mark the 1st of the month. A day that would mean less money in peoples pockets and tougher choices due to rent and fare increases and the continuing reduction of social services and jobs. Approximately 100 people came marched, rallied and chanted meanwhile presenting the Mayor with an itemized reciept of the added expenses that the policy decisions he has pushed for and colluded will force Angelenos to pay. Stay tuned for more wake-up calls and how to get involved on the Summer of Resistance.
