Choose human rights over politics as usual
On Thursday, August 27th, Californians United for a Responsible Budget (which the Strategy Center is a member of) and allies held simultaneous press conferences in Los Angeles, Oakland and Sacramento urging Governor Schwarzenegger and Attorney General Jerry Brown not to appeal the federal court order on prison overcrowding. We urged them instead to submit a comprehensive prison reduction plan by September 18th as ordered by the courts After the press conferences, we hand delivered letters signed by over 50 organizations statewide.
In Los Angeles, speakers included Geri Silva (Families to Amend California's Three Strikes), Jackie Goldberg (former State Assembly member), Juan Estrada (Homies Unidos, formerly incarcerated), and Patrisse Cullors (Strategy Center, daughter of formerly incarcerated father, brother currently in prison).

Do not appeal reduction order; but rather, appeal to reason, justice, and a sensible system of justice.
