Westchester students petition against teacher layoffs
On Monday, April 27th, Westchester High School Taking Action members gathered 600 student signatures in a lunch-time petition drive against the recent decision by LAUSD to lay off more than 3,000 teachers. This effort was part of a broader citywide student day of action led by the Coalition for Education Justice. Since Board Member Marlene Canter, who represents Westchester, is retiring in July, students urged her not to let her legacy be stained by this decision and therefore to reverse her vote. LAUSD has until June 30th to prevent the layoffs--stay tuned for future actions or call us to find out how you can get involved!
