Lead Organizer, Bus Riders Union and Clean Air Campaign. Sunyoung co-coordinated the victorious six-year campaign for Bus-Only Lanes on Wilshire Boulevard. She was lead organizer for the BRU’s 2010-2012 campaign for federal civil rights intervention and coordinated the successful campaign against a regressive transportation sales tax. She is also the Center’s in-house scientist and policy expert on public health and climate. Sunyoung was born in Korea, raised partly on the Mariana Islands of Saipan and Guam, and spent high school in Los Angeles. She holds a B.A. from Smith College and is a 2004 graduate of the Center’s National School for Strategic Organizing. In Ecuador, Bolivia, and Peru, Sunyoung studied bio-cultural diversity and development, and worked as a climate researcher with the Indigenous Environmental Network. She is fluent in English, Korean, and Spanish.
